Match Report
Tenterden made full use of their Saturday first XI opening bowler, Tommy Richards, who ended up with figures of 8 for 19 from 17 overs, to stifle the free flowing Straggler batters. The opening pair of Taylors were undone quickly, and, when George BW was out for 12, the Stragglers were under the cosh at 31 for 3 after 11 overs. Justin Hubbard (59) and Theo Allport (66) steadied the ship with great resolution, and plundered the second string bowling to great effect putting on 123 for the fourth wicket. However, the return of Tommy undid them both, and the procession continued, leaving only the final pair of Prest and Tapp undefeated at the declaration on 205 for 9.
The Tenterden openers rode their luck, seeing off Ed and Graeme Tyndall, and racing to a century partnership in the 19th over. A leg stump full toss from Theo finally broke the stand, and up stepped specialist fielder Patrick Clews to effect a double run out in Theo’s next over. The runs slowed, the batsmen could not deal with the lack of pace, and, for nearly ten overs, Tenterden creaked. However, even the presence of Straggler debutant twelfth man, Miss Park standing in for a limping Paul Taylor, was not enough to distract the young number six, who got his timing in order, and blazed his way to victory with 7 wickets down and a 6 overs to spare.
