Match Report

Bishopsbourne has seen a few tense and frustrating draws in the recent past, so the opportunity to chase seemed opportune. However, the Bishopsbourne batsmen struggled to get the ball off the square, and bowler’s economy rates improved no end. How often does a Straggler attack go for fewer than 2 an over, and with Jeremy ‘Pies’ Godden in the mix? Simon Allport with 4 for 21, and Jonathan Riches with a spell of 13 – 3 – 14 – 1 were the pick, after Toby Snape and Patch had used some ferocious pace to remove the openers. The final wicket fell in the 47th over, with the score a modest 88.

Will Hilton (42*) and James Grant (45*) were less constrained in the chase, with both trying to sneak a half century. Will hit the winning 6 in the 13th over for a ten wicket victory. This proved to be only the sixth ten wicket Straggler win, and of these the second highest reached without loss (the highest being 165 to beat Elham and Young Farmers in 1960).
