Match Report

A second crushing victory under the leadership of Mark Russell-Vick saw off a modest Nonington side on Independence Day. The Straggler upper order (Toby, Sam and Mark R-V and Simon Allport) were struggling to get the ball off the square, or even off the middle of the bat, and had managed a modest 67 for 3 in the twentieth over, when the resurgent Jonathan Neame joined Simon at the crease. Eschewing a sighter Jonathan launched the counter attack, and was immediately joined in the barrage by Simon who had rediscovered the middle of his bat. Together they put on 54 runs in 6 overs, and the momentum never slackened thereafter. Simon (45), Jonathan (66), Jasper Smallwood (39) and Hamish Cloke (26) all made batting look comfortable, and the wilting attack was given the coup de grace by Andrew Cloke, who struck 18 off the final over, the Stragglers closing on 262 for 7.

The Nonington batsmen never really turned up, immediately undone by Jasper with 3 for 25, and others sharing wickets with regularity to have them rolled over for 105 in 30 overs.
