Match Report

The first visit to Tenterden for a number of years produced an excellent tight game, taken to the wire. Talented Straggler batsmen failed to build an innings on a track of occasional bounce, until Charlie Munton showed what was possible. Coming to the wicket at 69 for 3, Charlie was last man out for 100 of the 129 scored while he was at the crease, and over half the total of 198.

Theo Allport, opening for the opposition, was developing a careful stand, when both he and his partner were undone by Simon’s flight to much paternal satisfaction. Another return catch for Simon took him to 12 outfield catches for the season, equalling the record held by Andrew Cox. It was, however, the introduction of Toby Russell Vick that really opened up the game. His 5 for 22 took the Stragglers to the brink of victory, but Tenterden’s Indian pro just kept enough in reserve to get to the target by a single wicket. Your correspondent must also mention Charlie RV, who kept wicket with much aplomb, having to deal with some raw Snape pace.
