Age is beginning to take its toll on a number of senior Stragglers. It was widely postulated that montane erosion is more eye-catchingly swift than the Boulanger on the boundary or Snapper fielding off his toes; and the Chairman’s bowling now has such lack of pace as to make the rotation of the earth a significant factor when choosing ends.
In spite of the porous nature of parts of the outfield, the Stragglers were kept in the hunt until the very last by the 5 wicket heroics of Toby RV. Defending 198, of which Charlie’s century was not just the backbone of the innings, but most of the skeleton as well, wickets were essential. Toby’s fifth took the Tenterden to 178 of 9…close but not quite.
