Stragglers met with triumph and disaster in two games in quick succession at Nonington and Provender. Harry P starred with the ball at Nonington, to record an exceptional 6 for 21, but the batting then failed to convert and were overwhelmed.

Three days later, five of the defeated side met again at Provender. Close run defeats have been the order of the day in the past three years, and Hugo was determined to win at the fourth time of asking. Step one was to set an imposing target, which was duly achieved by James Grant, Al and Jasper all notching up half centuries. Step two was to contain the Provender batting line up, full of talent and relishing the chase. The plan worked fine until three catches went to ground, and the opener looked well in for a ton. Hugo, completely unfazed, unleashed his secret weapons; 145 for 3 became 149 for 8; job done.
