Chairman's Blog

In the Benenden fixture of 2014, we faced the bowling of long term Benenden stalwart, Andrew Morrison, as he approached his 1,000th wicket for the Club.  On that occasion the Stragglers showed sufficient fortitude to deny him, and Andrew had to wait another fortnight to reach his target against Northiam, the middle wicket of a 3 for.  Andrew has bowled many, many overs at the Stragglers over the years, since first appearing in the records in 1989, and has removed plenty; he has our warmest congratulations for his remarkable landmark.
However, having achieved this apogee of bowling performance, Andrew seems to have re-launched his career as a top-order pinch hitter, along the lines of Adam Gilchrist.  And on this occasion took a particular fancy to the Chairman coming on at first change.  One six would have been enough to have made the point, but when the third enormous blow landed on the roof of the pavilion/village hall, and then lodged in the gutter, a white flag was raised, leaving Andrew to march on to a classy 63 with victory in sight.
