The semi-desert conditions and tropical heat of Torry Hill may have had somethng to do with it, but the Straggler fielding entered new realms of entertainment against the BaBes. Two Stragglers short on arrival, Nigel drafted in the spare BaBe, 11 year old Jonty Taylor, and the senior Stragglers had much to learn from him. Paddy Butler brought immense dexterity to patrolling the boundary; and Nigel, carrying an injury, was ruthlessly targetted at first slip, a position which receded a little after each ball to end up as deep third man during one over. However, catches were held, Patrick’s keeping was exemplary (2 stumpings and 2 catches), and Nigel took a slip catch, for which a sun dial proved adequate to measure the reaction time.
