Chairman's Blog

There are a number of sayings, which describe the vicissitudes and bipolar nature of life, the vagaries of fate, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune; among the most eloquent is “Some days you eat the bear, and some days the bear eats you”.  And at Nonington the bear certainly tucked into some of the Straggler bowling. Ed, Patch and, most impressively, Bart, bowling with pace and control, held a very strong Nonington upper order in check.  At the other end, however, the story was very different, as low flying aircraft were put at risk in a hail of boundaries.  The long grass in the outfield did not give value for classical shots along the ground; the aerial route was deployed to full effect.  Three bowlers, who shall remain anonymous to save their blushes, had their season’s (and possibly career) figures torn to shreds – a combined 0 for 139 from 11.2 overs.  Thunder and lightening saved further humiliation, or were the Norse Gods commenting on the inadequacies on display?
