Match Report

Patrick Mitchell won the toss at Egerton, and chose to bat on a flat pitch, getting off to a quick start, with James Grant and Matt Smallwood opening up. Before long, Jasper Smallwood and Simon Allport were in, blasting it to all parts, both making fantastic fifties. The lower order’s tail wagged a bit to provide a total of 261, a very good total on that track.

The bowling opened up with Toby Snape and George Elwood, with a good mixture of control and hostility to start with. Simon, Theo and Jon Riches bowled well, making the ball turn square at times. Jasper also contributed with the ball. Perhaps the most surprising feature of the innings, though, was the Straggler’s fielding, with spectacular catching and people wearing blows in the field, all for the cause. Special mention goes to Nigel Snape, who now has an imprint of the ball and logo on his shin after stopping a certain four.
